Jules Ducelier and Sophie Faguet (Région Normandie) retire !

This Tuesday afternoon, Jules Ducelier and Sophie Faguet, skippers of Région Normandie, announced their retirement from the race.

The reason: the impossibility of repairing their two A2 spinnakers, which were damaged over the past few days.

They have therefore decided to turn back. The duo is expected to reach Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, within five days.

The two sailors, who were among the favorites of this edition, had been holding leading positions in the race after an intense battle since Cape Finisterre and a particularly well-managed passage at the La Palma Waypoint. The Région Normandie crew had been in the "top 10" since sailing down the Portuguese coast and were in 3rd place up until yesterday morning.

This marks the second retirement for the same reasons since the start of the race, following the withdrawal of Arno Biston and Vittoria Ripa Di Meana (Article.1) the day before. It shows just how much the current wind conditions are putting both the boats and their crews to the test.
