RACE UPDATE
The fleet continues to progress in steady conditions, with 14 to 18 knots of wind this afternoon.
A large windless zone expected at the end of the week is already forcing competitors to anticipate and plan their route.
Wings of the Ocean (Alexis Thomas & Pauline Courtois), Skipper Macif (Charlotte Yven & Hugo Dhallenne), and Cap St Barth (Cindy Brin & Thomas André) currently lead, with a 20-nautical mile (37 km) advantage.
Estimated time of arrival (ETA) is now "stabilized" between Thursday, May 8 and Saturday, May 10.
Martin Le Pape and Mathilde Géron (DEMAIN) have torn their large spinnaker.
Jules Ducelier and Sophie Faguet (Région Normandie), who retired yesterday due to spinnaker damage, are expected to reach the Canaries by the end of the week.
NEWS FROM THE FLEET
Spinnakers have certainly been put to the test in recent days. It was the damage to all of theirs that ultimately led Jules Ducelier and Sophie Faguet (Région Normandie) to retire from the race. This morning, Martin Le Pape (Demain) filmed himself in the hold with his torn sail: "We blew it out at dawn—there’s a big hole… lots of work ahead!"
"It’s been chaotic—we’ve had strong winds and heavy seas for the past two days," summed up Thomas André (Cap St Barth), still smiling despite the conditions.
On a lighter note, Quentin Vlamynck (Les Étoiles Filantes) captured a beautiful sunrise before filming Audrey Ogereau preparing a "very complete" breakfast. Meanwhile, Anaëlle Pattusch (Humains en action) enjoyed some cereal and juice, and Thomas de Dinechin snapped a photo of Aglaé Ribon (Amond for Pure Ocean) taking a nap—“the calm after the storm.”
